Design and Build With The Millennials.
Millennials have been the most studied generation to date and for good reason; they will shape our future in a way that no other generation has. Millennials are people born between 1982 and 1997, and they are the largest and most influential age group of the African Market.
The uniqueness of Millennials comes from the fact that they were born and raised in an era where information technology (IT) had already been in use. Meaning, majority of their activities have always been centered around the internet.
This is why as a business owner or an organization within any industry, you should focus on how to design and develop a product that is centered around the internet. Literally, these young adults are stuck with their smartphones and laptops because they serve as major access to information.
Millennial Centric Design
Starting a business requires a ton of research, design, and development. This is not the end of the life-cycle of any business but they are the starting point. It is important to know the demographics of the town where your business is located or your target market. Gathering these data and taking out time to analyze them, will give you clarity as to what and how you should design products and services.
Most organizations invest in user-experience research and it has helped them understand the foundation for a design strategy. It also helps organizations create an optimal product for users. Most importantly, you’ll have the data to back your strategy and design decisions.
A User-centered design (UCD) process outlines the phases throughout a design thinking life-cycle.
All this while focusing on gaining a deep understanding of what millennials would need and like to do with the products and services you’re designing.
Build With The Millennials
This part of the process may be done in stages which involve building from a rough concept to a complete design. Building with data gotten from this age group already sets your development phase in tune and because you have already gathered information about your market, you are building for a known market.
The question now would be, what functions do these millennials perform or want to perform most? What tasks do they want to execute? what third-party platforms are we integrating? Giving a descriptive answer to these questions would help the developer know what to build and the functionalities involved. And this answer is been provided during your user-research
Most business and social platforms are taking note of millennials and learning how to recognize this generation’s preferences and determine how they can build with millennial-centric research.
building with user-research is something an organization should always at all times encourage and it has been in implementation for many years now. For software developers working with researchers, it has help foster productive, and enjoyable, collaborations.
